It is not often you come across such a special place in the world. I have travelled to many countries for pleasure and for work, but this hidden gem in Basilicata has stolen my heart and I have no doubt will remain my favourite place forever.

Where to start… the grounds are so beautifully kept by the fantastic and friendly gardner Rocco; the main house speaks of so much history and has been restored with so much thought and the flowers and trees add a magic to the place that is so enchanting you can get lost day dreaming walking to breakfast each day.

My husband and I got married here on 26th July and we had an incredibly special wedding here. We chose Basilicata as my father was born here and wanted a rustic and simple place to reflect the region and to bring our family and friends there to celebrate our marriage. From the moment we enquired to the moment we left we were treated like family. Giovanni who looks after the office was the kindest person we were lucky enough to have helped us plan our wedding and holiday at San Teodoro. Nothing was ever a problem, always so polite and would go out of his way to accommodate us. Stella, Debora, Camilla, Camilla’s son, Tereza, Rocco and all the other workers whose names I have sadly forgotten were all exceptionally kind and we felt like part of the family.
And finally Maria – the owner of the Tenuta: an incredible lady who you can tell has put her soul into this property. She has created a very special place in San Teodoro and I fear the secret will be exposed very soon. She always had time to speak to us and she helped create a spectacularly unique wedding I will always be grateful for. Thank you to all the staff, you really make the place and it wouldn’t be the same without you.

The wedding: It is now over a week ago and I still have guests contacting me to say the wedding was the most special they have ever been to and I have no doubt this was all down to the venue. The atmosphere the courtyard created at night was like nothing else we or any of our guests have experienced. We were told the food was ‘the best they had tasted’ thanks to the wonderful chef. We had a local folk group Cupa Cupa, recommended by Giovanni, who were truly brilliant and helped get everyone up and dancing. Giovanni, Stella and the team really helped my vision come alive and I can’t thank them enough – please look at the photos.
The staff on the night including Nicola were fantastic.
We had both our families stay at the venue for the 10 days we were there and hosted a pool brunch for our guests the next day – they didn’t want to leave!!

If you are considering hosting your wedding here, do not hesitate. It is not a standardised 5 star city centre hotel but a real beautiful rustic country house with the staff making you feel as if you are hosting your wedding in your own home.

We will always remember our time here for our wedding. We can’t thank San Teodoro enough for what they did.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any other information, I would be more than happy to answer.
